"PRESERVING OUR PAST...ENHANCING OUR FUTURE" MEETINGS & EVENTS Calendar****************************************** The LEWISVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY meets bi-monthly on the second Monday of these months: January, March, May, July, September, November. Meetings are held at the Lewisville Branch Public Library at 6490 Shallowford Road in the heart of Lewisville, NC, with occasional meetings held at historic sites as noted. Everyone is cordially invited to attend meetings which are free and open to the public! Refreshments 6:30-7:00pm - Meeting at 7:00pm ------------------------------------------ November 12th, 2012 Update on the Nissen House Restoration Project featuring a visual presentation by Architect David Gall ------------------------ September 10th, 2012 Annual "pot-luck dinner" meeting at 5:30pm Lewisville Town Square Featuring artist Patricia Hobson plus a rope making demonstration! ------------------------------ July 9th, 2012 "Daughters of the American Revolution Mark Daniel Boone's Trail 1912-1915" featuring Randall Jones and his latest book Sponsored by the North Carolina Humanities Council & the National Endowment for the Humanities ------------------------ May 14th, 2012 "Woodland Indians in Piedmont NC" featuring Phyllis Baker Smith Director of the Nature Education Department Tanglewood Park Explore the Native American tribes living in Piedmont NC during the Woodland Period, with hands on replicas of artifacts, visual materials and discussions of daily life. ------------------------------------------------- March 12th, 2012 "Preserving Family Photographs" Photo archivist and local author Molly Grogan Rawls will share information about ways to preserve family photographs. Topics to be discussed: types of photographs; deterioration - how to recognize and prevent it; photo scrapbooks and albums - pros and cons; handling, storage and care of photographs, slides and negatives ************************************************* "BIG BOY B-B-Q" Fundraiser! With origins in the earliest years of settlement in Wachovia during the 18th century, the people and landscape of the Hope Moravian and Fraternity Church of the Brethren community will be illustrated from their beginnings to the present. Michael O. Hartley is the Director of Archeology at Old Salem Museum & Gardens. Martha B. Hartley is Researcher and Planner for the Division of Restoration at Salem Museum & Gardens. ***************************************************************************** November 14th, 2011 20th Anniversary Celebration ! September 30th through October 9th, 2011 2825 University Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC Visit the Lewisville Historical Society exhibit booth featuring the history of the Lewisville Fire Department - celebrating 60 years of service! ************************************************************************************ Craft Brothers Quartet & Crossview in Concert The Craft Brothers Gospel Quartet will perform in concert at Lewisville United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 20th, 2011 at 7:00pm. Crossview will also perform during the evening. The church is located at 6290 Shallowford Road. Natives of Lewisville, Ed, James, John and Ray Craft began singing as a gospel quartet in 1955. As children, they attended Harmony Grove United Methodist Church where their father directed music. Their parents, Gurney and Nola Craft, nurtured their son's love of music in their home. The Craft Brothers have been singing regionally for churches, revivals and community events for 56 years and have recorded some of their music. Admission is free!
